Sam starts the Quest

As Sam runs the Yukon Quest, his handler crew will be updating his blogs to keep you up to speed.

Sam started off the Quest as the fourth musher to leave Fairbanks on Saturday February 6th.  At a balmy 10 degrees Fahrenheit above zero the start was comfortable for both dogs and humans.

As the moderator and thousands of spectators present in downtown Fairbanks counted down for Sam to take off on this 1,000 mile adventure, the handlers were misty eyed watching their friend depart.

Sam made it to the first checkpoint, Two Rivers, in fine time with healthy and energetic dogs.  After just enough rest, Sam was again on the trail headed to the second checkpoint at Mile 101 far into Interior Alaskan wilderness.
